Build #9: 7x57 Lightweight Hunter on a Rem 700

Sawtooth Rifles - Build #9:  7x57 Mauser - Light Weight Hunter

We were interested in the concept specified for Build #8 and decided to make another one for a demo rifle for an upcoming deer hunt.  It was built with slightly different components but came out within a few ounces.

Spec's:

Action:  Remington 700 LA
Barrel Blank:  Shilen , 7mm, 1:9", CM, #1 contour, finished at 21"
Stock:  Bell and Carlson Mt. Rifle Stock
Bottom Metal:  Rem ADL Aluminum
Trigger:  Tuned Remington, set at 2.5 lbs.
Rings/Bases:  Talley Lightweight integral mounts.
Optic:  Vortex Viper 2-7x33 BDC
Finish, Metal:  Sniper Grey Cerakote
Finish, Stock:  Cerakote with Sniper Grey base coat Patriot Brown, OD Green, Verde Green and Armor Black

Total Weight with mounted optic:  7lb, 3 oz.

There wasn't a lot of picture taking going on during this build, as we were more interested in getting it done and shot a bit before the deer hunt.  Here is more of a "before and after" photo essay:

Blueprinted receivers.  It is the one on the left.

Pile of parts.

Chambered and installed barrel, stock modified to fit the barrel, ready for bedding and Cerakote.

Barreled action ready for bedding.

Stock roughed up, ready for bedding.

Sniper Grey base coat on the stock.

Getting close, 3 out of the 4 camo colors applied.

The lineup.

Finished parts, ready to assemble.

7 lb, 3.8 oz with an empty tank.

Assembled.  Lets hunt!

Lewis' hand engraving.
#9 has a healthy appetite for 140 Accubonds and IMR 4350.  We got groups closing in on 1/2 MOA.

At the range with #7.
Somewhere in Colorado.

This is the background were thinking of with the colors on the stock.

Checking the zero after a couple days on the mountain.

Scratch what was said above, this is actually the background we were thinking of for this rifle :)
